Navigating the Sidebar

Goal: Understand the sidebar sections and know where to find every feature.
The sidebar on the left side of VoTech is your main navigation. It's organized into collapsible sections. You only see sections and items that your role can access — if something isn't in your sidebar, your role doesn't have permission to use it.

Sidebar Sections
Dashboard / My Portal
Your home base. Links to the Dashboard tabs (My View, Location, Program).
Students
- Students — the full roster (filtered by your location/county). The Enroll Student button is on this page.
Program
- Classes — view and manage all classes
- Attendance — take and review attendance
- Terms — manage terms (start/end dates, active term) (Super Admin, Director)
- Locations — view and edit location details
- Manage Skills — maintain the skills catalog (Super Admin, Director)
- Milestone Types — configure milestone templates (Super Admin, Director)
- Career Paths — manage DB-driven career path options per location (Super Admin, Director)
Schedule
- Calendar — month, week, day, and agenda views of sessions
- Staff Schedules — view and manage staff schedule assignments
- Team Tasks — assign and track tasks for staff (Coordinator and above)
Community
- Partners — community organizations and job matching
- Invoices — create and send PDF invoices to community partners
Insights
- Reports — the report builder with column selection, filters, and CSV export
- Tests — create and manage tests (Super Admin, Director, Coordinator)
- Surveys — create and manage surveys (Super Admin, Director, Coordinator)
- Follow-Ups — track post-program student outcomes
Communications
- Notifications — compose and send notifications via email/SMS
Admin
- Manage Users — manage user accounts and roles (Super Admin, Director, Case Manager, Coordinator — scoped by location)
- Permissions — fine-grained permission overrides (Super Admin)
- Interest Forms — review pending submissions from the public form
- Invites — manage student referral invitations
- Program Invites — manage event QR codes and invite links
- Notification Test — test email/SMS delivery (Super Admin)
- Backup & Restore — system backups and data restore (Super Admin)

The sidebar is collapsible. Click the arrow icon at the bottom to collapse it and give yourself more screen space, especially on smaller screens.
Collapsing and Expanding
- Click a section header (like "Program" or "Admin") to expand or collapse that section
- Click the collapse button at the bottom of the sidebar to minimize it completely
- On mobile, the sidebar becomes a hamburger menu — tap the menu icon in the top-left
