Parent & Student Portal
Goal: Understand what you can see and do in the VoTech portal as a parent or student.
The Parent & Student Portal is a simplified, read-only view of VoTech designed for families and students. You can check in on progress without needing to know the full system.

Signing In
- Go to votech.71five.org
- Click Sign in with Google
- Use the Google account that was set up for your portal access
- You'll land on the My Portal page
Your portal account is created by VoTech staff. If you don't have an account, contact the Case Manager at your location.
What You Can See
The portal shows a card for each student linked to your account. Each card includes:
๐ Attendance Stats
Your (or your child's) attendance record with an overall attendance rate percentage.
๐ Class Enrollments
Which classes the student is currently enrolled in, with:
- Class name with phase and time slot badges
- Location
๐ Recent Attendance
The last 10 attendance records showing date, status (Present, Absent, Tardy), session, and class name.
๐๏ธ Upcoming Sessions
Up to 50 upcoming class sessions, grouped by week.
๐ Certifications
Industry certifications earned (welding, OSHA, etc.).
๐ฌ Messages
Staff-to-student messages visible in the portal.
Portal Activation
Staff send a portal invite โ the recipient clicks a /join/[token] link โ the page validates the invite and confirms identity by matching email โ account is created via magic link or Google OAuth. Parents may also receive /consent/[token] links for digital FERPA consent.
Portal Tabs
The portal uses 5 tabs: Overview, Progress, Calendar, Attendance, and Messages. Navigate between them using the tab bar at the top.
What You Cannot Do
The portal is read-only for viewing data. You cannot:
- Edit any information (contact staff to make changes)
- See other students' data
- Access staff-only features (reports, notifications, admin)
- View sensitive data (health, justice, case notes, ACE)
Completing Forms
Students may receive links (via email or text) to complete:
Daily Check-Ins
- Open the link sent after attendance is taken
- Answer 3-5 questions about how you're doing
- Submit โ your instructor can see responses to help support you
Tests
- Open the test link
- Answer all questions
- Submit โ your score appears after grading
Surveys
- Open the survey link
- Share your feedback
- Submit โ responses help improve the program
Follow-Up Surveys (Alumni)
- After completing the program, you'll receive follow-up links at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months
- Enter your Student ID and date of birth to verify your identity
- Complete the survey about your current employment, education, and wellbeing
Check your email and text messages regularly for links from VoTech. These time-sensitive links let you complete check-ins, tests, and follow-ups from your phone.
Getting Help

The portal shows data as of the last update. If your attendance was just recorded, it may take a moment to appear. If something still looks wrong after a few minutes, contact your Case Manager.
